Faith & Religious Education News

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope you all have had a restful winter break. It’s been a busy start to the term. We are keeping Mrs Salisbury and Mr Golightly in our prayers, as they both are currently on sick leave. We wish them both a speedy recovery.

Mrs Broderick has requested we take special care when we are playing around our school gardens as we have entered the Carnival of Flowers – School Garden section. We all appreciate the time and effort Mrs Broderick puts into making our school such a pleasant place to be. Mrs Broderick spotted two smiling souls, sitting on a rock, in our school gardens at the end of Term 2. Their smiles and Mrs Broderick’s gardens certainly brighten our days!

This afternoon, Wednesday, 21st July, we have our first parent meeting for those children (Year 3–6) preparing for the Sacrament of 1st Reconciliation in the OLOL Church at 3:30pm. Please remember to bring your mobile phone to check into the Queensland Covid App on arrival.  Children will receive their booklets and families will be organised into small working groups. Lists and contact details for these groups will be sent out after the meeting.  If you are unable to attend this meeting, please contact Mrs Moore so information can be sent home. All those who haven’t sent in a copy of their Baptism Certificate and A5 photo – please do so as soon as possible. This meeting will be followed by the second parent/child information afternoon on Wednesday 4th August, also at 3:30pm in the OLOL Church. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on Wednesday 8th September at 7.00pm.

It’s “Pyjama Day” tomorrow – Please join in the fun by wearing your Pyjamas and bringing a Gold coin to support the “Pyjama Angels Foundation” - this is a group who focus on providing reading support for children in foster care. We have our own “Pyjama Angels” – Mrs Monte and Mrs Wagner - who volunteer for this group.  Mrs. Leathart has organised a special guest reader for Assembly this week.

The P&F have organised a School Disco on Friday 23rd July- starting at 5:30pm – All families are warmly welcomed. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Week 3 is Catholic Education Week.  We are celebrating 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia with the Theme “A Spirited Tomorrow”. The parish has invited all school staff to attend a special “Thank you Mass” on Sunday  25th July at 9:30am.  We will be celebrating with an Assembly in the hall, led by Year 5M, at 2:15pm on Wednesday 28th July. Please note there will be no assembly on Thursday 29th July.

Bishop’s In-service Pupil Free Day will be on Friday 30th July.  Teachers will be attending an In-service.

Just reminder to take a photo of you and your Dad/Grandad/Poppy ( N.B. one Photo per family), and email it to Mrs Moore (Janice.Moore@twb.catholic.edu.au ) by Friday 27th August for our OLOL Fathers’ Day Mass Photostory on Wednesday 1st September.
