It really is hard to believe we are already in the second half of Term 3. Staff and students are smiling each day as they come into school which is always great to see, and they are excited about the talk of new buildings that will begin in the holidays.
Building Project
At the completion of the building project, we will gain a new double storey administration block, five learning areas, new amenities and nine refurbished learning areas.
The first stage commencing at the beginning of the holidays, involves the demolition of the current administration building, refurbishment of the building where Clothing Pool, Year 5, Year 6 and Learning Support currently live, and construction of two new classrooms. Next term these will temporarily move to other areas in the school. Our school office will operate out of the Library from Term 4.
Here is a recap of recent communication about the upcoming trial regarding changes to school routine in response to school access restrictions due to the new building project. Beginning Week 8 of this term:
- The morning bell for Prep- Year 3 students will be rung at 8:15 am as a signal for students to line up and go to the toilet, ready to be in class by 8:20 to begin learning.
- There will be one Stop Drop and Go zone behind the Church - no Ascot St drop off or pick up area.
- The Church Stop Drop Go zone will be the only place to drop off students in the morning between 8:00 and 8:30 am unless you park the car and walk in.
- All students in Prep to Year 3 will finish class at 2:40 p.m. Those who have no older siblings will need to be picked up from the Church Stop Drop Go or from their usual area in the school between 2:40 and 3:00 p.m. (unless arrangements have been made to pick up student in the second pickup time slot due to other commitments).
- All students in Year 4- 6 with their younger siblings will need to be picked up at the Church Stop Drop Go zone from 3:05 p.m.
- You also have the option of parking and pick up from your usual area in school i.e., Prep area, or quad area outside Year 1.
- Prep to Year 3 students who have older siblings in Year 4-6 will be involved in activities supervised by a teacher in their classroom or a neighbour class until 3:00 p.m.
- Children need to know exactly where they will be picked up from and at which time slot.
Pupil Free Day- Friday 17th September
As you can imagine, we have a lot of furniture and resources to move before the end of term for the builders to take over and start demolishing. We have removalists to help move larger furniture items and heavy equipment on the last day of term. To assist us with moving furniture and other items on this day safely, we have sought and gained permission for a Pupil Free Day on 17 September.
For those parents who work and are unable to arrange care for their child, we will be able to accommodate them in classrooms not affected by the move. Please notify your child’s teacher if you need to send your child to school on the final day of school. The final school assembly for the term will now be on Thursday 16 at 12 noon.
Working Bee
In readiness for the removalists to come on the final day of term, we are holding a Working Bee on Saturday 11 September commencing at 8:30 a.m. Any volunteers to help with packing and shifting boxes would be greatly appreciated. We thank you in anticipation for your support of the move and this exciting new project for our school.
Summer Uniform
We will transition to the summer uniform from Monday 30 August (Week 8). If you are needing summer uniform items from the Clothing Pool, this will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for Weeks 7, 8 and 9 from 8:00- 8:30 a.m. Next term the Clothing Pool will have reduced stock at school available so please come and visit in the next few weeks before the building project starts. Please remember we request predominantly white or black sport shoes with sport uniform (no fluorescent colours) and black shoes with formal uniform.
No Pets on School Grounds
To support the promotion of a safe school environment and to ensure the safety of all whilst attending school, could we please ensure there are no pets on school grounds. We ask you to wait outside the school gates if you have a pet with you and ask for all dogs to be on a leash. Thank you for your cooperation.
Swimming
A reminder that swimming lessons will be held each day of Week 9, commencing Monday 6th September. We have already emailed all the information regarding these lessons- you need to fill in the online permission form (one per child) for your child to participate in these swimming lessons. Forms are due by Friday 27th August. Please note that unfortunately no spectators are permitted.
Trivia Night
Please refer to the flyer about the upcoming social event – our annual trivia night. This will be held in the hall on Saturday 28 August from 6:30 p.m. It would be great to see as many people as possible there to support our school.
School Fees
Just a reminder that this term’s school fee invoices have been sent via email to families. As always, your prompt payment of these invoices greatly assists the school in meeting its ongoing financial commitments. Thank you for your continued support.

Prep
It’s great to see our littlest Lourdes Learners developing in their reading, writing and maths concepts. We are testing over the next couple of weeks and will show you these results at our parent interviews - Prep H on the 4th September and Prep W on the 11th September.
Please remember to fill in the online swimming permission form that you all received - your child cannot attend swimming with us unless it is filled in.
Both classes have sent home notes regarding book week dress up, Father’s Day morning and parent interviews. We require donations for the school Father’s Day stall and a Dad and child photo for Mrs Moore - Janice.moore@twb.catholic.edu.au
In science we are enjoying being weather watchers and collating and recording our data each week. We now have a good understanding of the weather symbols.
Please keep up the good work at home by reading every night - picture books for enjoyment and home readers for fluency and competency. Sight words and word families must be practised regularly as well - it’s a good time to start a regular homework routine.
Thanks,
Liz and Melita

For parents coming along for the day, we look forward to seeing you at the museum at around 10.00am. Parents attending if you could have your $8.00 entrance fee handy on arrival, that would be lovely and thank you in advance for joining us. We hope to pop into Peacehaven Park on the way home for a play.
This week in our Maths learning we are exploring events and activities that involve chance, describing outcomes as likely, unlikely, certain or impossible. We will continue to revise numbers up to and beyond 1000, learning to partition them in different ways, locate numbers on a number line and to count from different starting points. In Religion we have been looking at some Old Testament stories, exploring the ten commandments and finding out about the meaning of the word covenant. We are also learning about Jewish customs and how they relate to Catholic traditions. In English we are enjoying delving into the world of Roald Dahl and reading the book George’s Marvellous Medicine. Year 4
Can you believe that we are past mid-term already?! So far, we have been blessed with no lockdown. Thanks to all who have persisted with Teams and the online homework. Most children have been very diligent in completing all set work. Regular practice of tables and spelling over the week, is the optimum way to remember. Over the last few weeks, class groups have been very busy constructing their roller coasters as part of our Science unit on Friction. Children have absolutely enjoyed working together on this hands-on approach to learning.
Next week of course is Book Week and Monday being Dress-up day. Outfits need to be sun safe – eg shoulders and midriffs covered and no ‘short’ shorts. The Fathers’ Day Mass will be held on Wednesday 1st September – if you would like a photo included in the reflection (one per family), please email it to Mrs Moore by the 27th August – Janice.Moore@twb.catholic.edu.au. The Fathers’ Day stall will be held on Thursday 2nd September – gifts can be brought to class teachers any time before.
We will be having a Year 4 Liturgy towards the end of Term, to showcase our Dancing with Mrs Fisher, but as yet we don’t have a confirmed date. We will keep you informed!
An online swimming permission form has been sent home through the office. Please fill this in to ensure your child swims in Week 9. Some classrooms have run out of tissues – so we would be grateful if anyone were able to donate another box.
Have a great week all.
Suzanne, Toni and Garry
Year 5
It’s a little sad to think that today we should be at Camp Tallebudgera but instead are still here in Toowoomba. Lucky for us we have managed to secure new dates in October from the 18th - 20th. Our program will remain as per normal for this week, however there will be no interschool sport this coming Friday the 20th August.
Over the next few weeks we will be continuing to focus on informative paragraph writing using Hamburger structures. Students will be researching a country in North America or Europe and then writing an informative report in Word. They will then use their digital skills to create a SWAY presentation. In Maths we are looking at simple budgets and learning how to create these using programming skills in Excel. Students will be moving into revising key concepts of Chance towards the end of the term. In Religion we are looking at communities of believers. Students are delving into Judaism and learning some of the rituals and customs of Jewish people.
With the upcoming changes to Stop, Drop and Go; it would be extremely beneficial for families to start placing their children's surnames on the visor in their car. Being able to quickly identify and locate students will assist with easing congestion and getting you all home quickly, safe and sound.
